Willow Weaves

Willow weaves are created with the random weave technique, a technique originally inspired by birds nests.

Most weaving techniques are made through repetition and order, but random weaves allow more flexibility.

They are made through constant reflection on the current balance of what you’ve created.

There is a natural order to them, but the rules to a random weave are only guidelines.

Every creation comes with new problems, a process of trial and error.

And a tension of balance, a collaboration between one branches security and another’s protection.

You must always be deliberate with were the strain of one branch constricts against another.

But the knowledge of this coexistence doesn’t come from books or patterns, it is a moment of mediation through touch, a natural form of communication animals and people alike understand.

A space to listen to the information that comes from material to skin to mind.

It is a tactile art form in a man made world.

And it is play, an act of finding creativity in what is around all of us.
